According to reports on September 9, KST, a former idol has been indicted for falsifying medical records to evade mandatory military enlistment.
“A,” a former idol in his 30s, was indicted without detention by the 3rd Criminal Division of the Changwon District Prosecutor Office on charges of violating the Military Service Act. “A” stands accused of conspiring with his mother, “B,” to falsify medical records under a doctor’s name in 2021 in order to avoid enlisting in the military. Another individual, “C,” who is a nurse, was also indicted with them.
“A” was originally classified as Grade 1 in military fitness evaluation, which made him eligible for active duty. But according to investigations, he forged medical records to lower his grade to Grade 4.
Initially, the police refused to investigate the case, citing insufficient evidence to prove that “A” and “B” committed the crime and that they had deceived the Military Manpower Administration. But after a request from the prosecution, they re-investigated and forwarded the case to the prosecutor’s office. The prosecution analyzed the phone conversations between the co-conspirators and deemed that there was sufficient evidence.
The prosecution also conducted a medical examination of the MRI images submitted by “A” during his military service examination and confirmed that he did not have the disease, which was cited as the reason for his exemption from active duty service.
Nurse “C” was accused of accessing the hospital’s electronic system at the request of “B” to help forge the medical records. “A” has already finished his military service as a social service worker after being classified as a Grade 4 recruit.
If “A” is found guilty of really forging documents to evade his enlistment, he would be ordered to undergo a new physical examination and serve his mandatory military duty again, in accordance with the evaluation results.
