Actress Seol In Ah recently shared some alarming news with her fans, revealing that she has been hospitalized. The social media update posted by the actress herself sparked some concern as it showed her lying on a hospital bed.
She captioned the image with, “Please save my knee and hip joint,” hinting at the physical toll her body has endured. While this eased some fans’ concerns, Seol In Ah’s past struggles with her health — her insomnia in particular — made some remain worried.
The actress is currently appearing on the popular tvN variety show Iron Girls Squad. The show follows the intense training of participants preparing for a triathlon. Considering the context of the show one would think Seol In Ah must be extremely healthy to take on such a challenge. Thus, when she revealed her horrifying stories regarding her struggles with severe insomnia, everyone was shocked.
Despite her outward image of vitality, she confessed that she has rarely felt truly healthy and saw the triathlon challenge as an opportunity to improve her overall well-being.
In a candid moment on the program, Seol In Ah opened up about her severe insomnia, admitting that she has been reliant on sleeping pills for the past five years. Her reliance on the pills seemingly angered the actress.
I actually can’t sleep at all. I’ve been taking sleeping pills for about five years, and I started to get angry after taking them. I wondered, ‘Why do I have to take sleeping pills just to fall asleep?’

That’s why she made the decision to try and quit the sleeping pills. Not only was her dependency upsetting her, but the pills themselves were making it hard for In Ah to concentrate during filming days.
However, after attempting to quit sleeping pills, Seol In Ah experienced several sleepless nights, which led to her immune system collapsing. The actress then revealed that as a consequence, she had to take 24 pills a day to manage her symptoms at one point, particularly her skin condition.
When I take sleeping pills, I can’t focus on filming. I tried to quit, but after staying up for 3 to 4 days, my immune system collapsed, and I ended up taking 24 pills a day while receiving treatment at a university hospital — just for my skin.
