American rapper Latto recently spoke about her experience with K-Pop in an interview.
Before his military enlistment, BTS‘s Jungkook dove into his solo career, ultimately releasing his album Golden. The first single released from the album was “SEVEN (feat. Latto),” which attracted attention for various reasons, including the video’s leading actress, Han So Hee.
Latto’s involvement was also controversial at times, with some finding her verse “overtly sexual,” in addition to her past racist tweets about Asians resurfacing.

Despite this, the track was highly successful, with Latto even joining Jungkook on stage for a performance at the 2023 Global Citizens Festival.

Recently, Latto spoke about her experience following the release of “SEVEN.”
The rapper was interview by Billboard ahead of the release of her album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, this August.
Latto was first asked about her new pop stardom, something she said she never expected to have. She mentions that opportunities seem to fall into her lap, specifically mentioning K-Pop.
I was like, “Damn, OK. K-Pop? What?” That sh-t just be falling in my lap. The opportunities, the production, the people that you have access to work with; it all grew as I grew.

When the interviewer asked a follow up question about her experience entering the world of K-Pop, Latto reflected on the increase in interactions on her Instagram posts when she posted a photo of Jungkook, saying that “they got a real cult following.” She said that after seeing the fan base, ARMY, in person, that she wanted to “get like that.”
Stepping into K-Pop was very different for me. I was like, “Oh, these people running low-key cults! They do not play.” I’m posting regular pictures on Instagram, then I post the picture with JK — Jungkook — I’m seeing my comments, likes, everything tripling. They got a real cult following. That sh-t is crazy. And then performing with him in New York and seeing the fan base in person, that sh-t was different. I’m tryna get like that.

Rather than meaning it in an entirely negative way, it seems like Latto would like to have a similar level of support!
