NewJeans‘ Hanni is receiving mixed reactions from netizens for her recent Instagram story.

During the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, Chappell Roan delivered a speech after winning “Best New Artist” advocating for labels to provided health benefits and livable wage for artists.
I told myself if I ever won a Grammy and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists.
Because I got signed so young, I got signed as a minor, and when I got dropped I had zero job experience under my belt, and like most people, I had a difficult time finding a job in the pandemic and could not afford health insurance. It was so devastating to feel so committed to my art and feel so betrayed by the system and so dehumanized to not have healthcare. And if my label would have prioritized artists’ health I would have been provided care by a company I was giving everything to. So record labels need to treat their artists as valuable employees with a livable wage and health insurance protection. Labels, we got you, but do you got us?

Soon after, Hanni posted an Instagram story on NewJeans’ Instagram account, @jeanzforfree.

Upon closer look, she shared a thumbnail from Chappell Roan’s acceptance speech and added a fiery heart emoji.

Many suspect that Hanni supports Chappell’s message for labels to support their artists as Hanni attended a hearing regarding HYBE’s alleged mistreatment of NewJeans and workplace bullying (though the case was eventually closed).
This girl really got hated on for speaking up against mistreatment by labels against artists. Hanni and Chappell the artists y’all are <3 https://t.co/IGhpTHTQsF pic.twitter.com/KzusJR8Wrp

Many showed support for her and drew parallels between Chappell’s speech and NewJeans’ situation.

remember when she tried to make a claim about workplace bullying and it was dismissed bc essentially, the law does not recognize idols as workers? yeah of course she relates https://t.co/702UOzHOYU

Hanni gets dragged for literally just posting a capture and saying nothing else, while also sharing other highlights of the night like any other fan of the Grammys. But suddenly she’s a privileged attention seeker. K-pop fans hate her and women so much. https://t.co/yj6XAQ46WK pic.twitter.com/tOzQ5KFtS2

However, some netizens found her situation very different from Chappell Roan’s speech who advocated for developing artists’ rights and livable wages.

No trainee debt, a penthouse, high budget, full freedom for their creative team, regular vacations and 3M a year since debut… Chappell isn’t even asking for all that, just a livable wage
But so kind of her to spread this message for new artists who aren’t as privileged as her https://t.co/xH80gckyXh

Why is a millionaire in a country with socialised healthcare trying to make a speech about artists that are not insured and not paid fairly about herself? ????
She is the opposite of people Chappell Roan advocated for in this speech. https://t.co/azP8AnyvcW

Regardless, Hanni shows support for Chappell and developing artists.
