Designer Kim Ri Eul (birth name Kim Jong Won), who has designed hanboks for many K-Pop idols including BTS, has passed away.

On the 12th, his family confirmed with Hankyung.com, stating, “It is true that Kim Ri Eul passed away yesterday.” Police received a report that he had been found deceased in his apartment in Namwon and is believed to has taken his own life.
Kim Ri Eul was known for his brand modern hanbok brand Rieul since 2016 and has created outfits for idols like BTS, MONSTA X, CLC, Zico, and more. He gained recognition when BTS’s Suga, J-Hope, and Jimin wore his brand for an “IDOL” performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The late designer also collaborated with brands including British supercar brand McLaren, Samsung Galaxy S21, Gyeongju Kolon Hotel, and the Cultural Heritage Administration. He was also named one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in Asia.
