When K-Pop groups promote, the cycle is usually kicked off by a release, whether a mini album or single.
Usually, any sort of release is welcomed, but a mini or full album is preferred to give fans more new music to listen to, especially since full albums have more tracks.
Most groups will release a mixture of these album formats throughout their career, naturally slowing down as the idols pursue their solo careers. However, through a mixture of circumstances, a boy group recently broke the record for the number of mini-albums released as a group.
In 2016, FNC Entertainment debuted SF9 as its first “dance” K-Pop boy group, following AOA, FTISLAND, and CNBLUE.
The originally nine-membered group’s first release was a single album, with their first mini album released the following year. SF9 rose to popularity quickly, releasing three mini albums in 2017 and going on their first US tour just a year after their debut.
The group promoted as nine until the members’ military enlistments began, promoting as six for their 11th mini album in 2022. Despite rejoining for the promotions of their 12th album, The Piece OF9, Rowoon would go on to leave the group in order to focus on his acting career in September 2023.
2024 has seen them release one mini album before member Dawon‘s enlistment and also announce the release of their 14th mini album, due to be released on August 19. The teaser for the upcoming release already gained attention due to the reveal of a members back tattoo.

As SF9 close in on their 8th anniversary, it is truly a feat that they have released so many mini albums. TWICE and UKISS are currently the artists closest to this number at 13 mini albums released each.
However, this total seems to have been reach because of the lack of full albums released by the group. FIRST COLLECTION was released in 2020, and is currently SF9’s only full Korean album.
Many fans, while grateful for this achievement and their continued releases, are hopeful that this will change soon for the talented group.

And we had to sacrifice full albums , units debut , original Japanese releases for that
FNC hates them fr a 9 membered group with 0 units for 8 years?? This is crazy we should be having various units left and right by now https://t.co/uf2QjCXaZc
