MAMAMOO member Hwasa recently shared the story of her rebelling against her company’s CEO.
On September 17, Hwasa appeared as a special guest on the popular YouTube show, The K-Star Next Door. During the episode, host Jonathan brought up the singer’s rebellious nature, pointing out a specific incident in which she almost got fired as a trainee.
Hwasa recalled that she weighed 60 kg as a trainee, and her CEO had instructed her to bring it down to 48 kg for a chance to debut. But despite her best efforts, she reduced her weight to 49 kg.
Even with merely one kg’s difference, Hwasa said her CEO was not satisfied and still threatened to fire her.
Angry at this response, she had a “bout” with him and then proceeded to vent her anger by writing a song, “My Heart.” She then emailed the song to her CEO. “What my boss expected to see was an apology,” Hwasa explained, pointing out how unexpected her reply must have been.
Though Hwasa expected to be rebuked for pulling this move, it turned out her CEO ended up liking her more because of it! When asked if she felt it was difficult to speak out as a female trainee, the “Maria” singer cheekily responded, “I thought it’d be cool to try this.”
