An American actress is being accused of racism towards BLACKPINK‘s Jennie after a recent interaction.
On October 1, Jennie attended the CHANEL show for Paris Fashion Week and shocked netizens by debuting blonde hair.
Another guest at the show was actress Margaret Qualley, and at one point, when she met Jennie, the actress touched her wig and asked if it was real.
When the video was posted, netizens immediately found the comment towards Jennie racist, alluding to the fact that because it was blonde and Jennie is Asian, the American actress felt the need to touch it and ask if it was real, rather than just complimenting Jennie.
I’m crying so white people just be doing this to everybody https://t.co/WF4mFrXXzc

When the clip was posted on the forum theqoo, Korean fans also felt that the comments towards Jennie about her hair were ignorant and racist. Many also touched upon how the actress in another clip seemingly avoided Jennie’s kiss, but seemed “close enough” to touch her hair and ask personal questions.
It meant that netizens weren’t afraid to show their anger.
- Would you ask a white person with black hair if it’s their real hair? How is asking an Asian person with blonde hair if it’s real not considered racism?
- Not even surprised, haha.
- Jennie is overwhelmingly popular and well-known, so why act like that?
- Wow, I’m really disappointed.
- Such an attitude.
- They’re being so rude, lol. It’s super annoying.
- Touching someone’s hair is rude. Even if you’re close, you don’t do that.
- So uncivilized.
- Rude and ignorant.
- Creepy. That’s how people who are racist act.
- Ugh, this is ridiculous. I’m not even a Jennie fan, but her attitude is appalling.
- Tsk tsk, her true character is showing.
- Who does she think she is, touching someone’s hair? Whether it’s a wig or not, what gives her the right, lol. I hope all her future projects fail.
Netizens believed the actress’s interaction with Jennie wasn’t appropriate.
