A female idol from China has been sentenced to prison for operating a casino.
Lu Xiangyi, a former member of the girl group SNH48, was reportedly sentenced to ten months in prison, suspended for one year, and fined 10,000 RMB for illegally running a casino.
According to the China Judgment Document Network, the former idol rented a shop in the Changning District of Shanghai in June last year and started operating a gambling den there. She reportedly used Texas Hold’em Poker to lure gamblers, who could join and gamble through WeChat and other means. She charged them table fees.
However, in August of 2024, Lu was arrested by the Chinese authorities. The local prosecutor recommended leniency after Lu fully and honestly confessed at the scene. She didn’t contest the charges, admitted guilt voluntarily, and even signed a statement acknowledging her criminal actions.
Meanwhile, Lu Xiangyi, born in 2003, is a 17th-generation member of the Chinese idol group SNH4 and also part of SNH48 Team X. She graduated from the group on April 11, 2024.
