Well, the MBC Entertainment Awards just wrapped up, and while these shows usually come with their share of drama, this year’s pre-show chatter wasn’t about fashion choices or surprise snubs — it was about something way more important.
During the interviews, beloved star Park We (you might know him from his popular YouTube videos) and his wife Song Ji Eun were having their moment with host Joon Hyun Moo. The power couple, who were up for the “Best Couple Award,” were doing their usual adorable thing when Park dropped what seemed like a casual observation that got everyone’s attention.
After his wife Song sweetly said they were just happy to be invited when asked about their chances of winning (cute, right?), Park looked around and dropped a truth bomb.
I looked around, and there’s no ramp. So I guess that means I won’t be winning.
— Park We
The moment got a bit awkward when host Joon Hyun Moo tried to play it off with a slightly nervous joke about installing a ramp if Park won — because according to him, putting one in advance would be a spoiler.
If you win, we’ll install one right away. If we put it in beforehand, it’d give away the winner, wouldn’t it? That’s why.
— Joon Hyun Moo
Following Joon’s awkward response, Park and Song were quick to jump in and clarify it was all meant as a joke. In fact, Park literally said “I was just joking,” while Song backed him up — probably seeing poor Joon Hyun Moo starting to sweat. The host even playfully scolded them, saying they were giving him anxiety during the live broadcast!
Don’t make jokes like that during a live broadcast—you’re making me break out in a cold sweat!
— Joon Hyun Moo
However, even though it was all in good fun, Park’s comment definitely got people talking about something that doesn’t get enough attention: making sure these glamorous events are actually accessible for everyone. Leave it to one of Korea’s favorite couples to spark an important conversation!
