South Korea’s legendary figure skater Kim Yuna is also mourning the tragic loss of young athletes in a recent plane crash near Washington, D.C.

On February 1, Kim shared a message from the Korean Skating Union on her social media, offering condolences to the victims. The statement honored the lives lost in the accident, particularly the figure skating team members, and promised that their dedication and performances would never be forgotten.
With deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences, we mourn the loss of the figure skating team members and all other victims who tragically passed away in the Washington, D.C. passenger plane accident. We will forever remember their passion, dedication, and the beautiful performances they shared with the world.

The Korean Skating Union also extended its sympathies to the victims’ families, fellow athletes, and the U.S. Figure Skating Association, wishing peace for those who lost their lives and strength for those grieving.

On January 29 (local time), American Airlines‘ regional subsidiary PSA Airlines Flight 5342 was attempting to land on Runway 33 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when it collided with a Black Hawk military helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River.
All 64 people on board, including four crew members and 60 passengers, lost their lives. Among them were around 20 figure skaters, their parents, and coaches, further deepening the shock.

The victims were returning home after participating in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and a national training camp for promising young skaters, which had taken place in Wichita, Kansas, from January 20 to 26. May they rest in peace.
