It has been confirmed that the perpetrator behind the murder of the 8-year-old girl in a Daejeon elementary school was her own teacher. The suspect was found at the scene with self-inflicted injuries. More details have been cleared up related to the tragic murder.

According to CC Today, the incident occurred on February 10 at approximately 4:30 PM. A private academy contacted the school to report that the student had not arrived for her scheduled class. Concerned teachers immediately searched the school but were unable to find her. When they later contacted her family and realized she was still missing, the police were alerted.
Using location tracking, authorities traced the child’s phone signal to the school’s audiovisual room. Inside, they discovered the young girl with severe stab wounds, along with the suspect, who had collapsed after attempting to harm herself.

The victim was quickly transported to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead around 7:00 PM. Meanwhile, the suspect — identified as a full-time teacher — called her husband at approximately 6:15 PM before she was taken to the hospital. She later admitted to committing the crime.
Reports indicate that the teacher had been dealing with serious mental health issues for some time, frequently taking medical leave and extended absences. She returned to work in December 2023, but her condition reportedly remained unstable, leading the school to consider further action.
According to DongA Ilbo, she reportedly purchased a weapon on the day of the crime and lured the child to the audiovisual room, saying that she would give her a book.
Authorities are now investigating the exact motive behind the attack, but the suspect’s current condition may complicate police questioning.
