After nearly nine years of marriage, a celebrity couple has announced their divorce. The announcement comes after longtime rumors of their split.
Taiwanese actress Michelle Chen and Chinese actor Chen Xiao began dating in 2015, after costarring in the 2014 Wuxia series The Romance of the Condor Heroes. The couple registered their marriage in early July 2016 and held their wedding ceremony on July 19, 2016 in Beijing. Their son, Chen Muchen, was born later that year.
Rumors of the couple’s marital troubles began as early as 2017 and continued throughout their marriage. According to unconfirmed rumors, reportedly fueled by Chinese paparazzi, the couple’s divorce proceedings began last June.
On February 18, Michelle Chen and Chen Xiao published the same post about their divorce on their personal Weibo accounts. They assured fans that their divorce is amicable and that they intend to co-parent their child, who is now eight years old.
