SEVENTEEN‘s The8 is being praised for his brutally honest advice to the Chuang Asia contestants.

The8, along with GOT7‘s BamBam, are the producers of the second series of Chuang Asia, a survival show to debut a new group.
During the first episode, the contestants showcased their talent and were ranked by the mentors.
With A being the highest grade, contestants noticed that it seemed impossible to get the highest ranking, and while The8 and BamBam were the strictest, even BamBam seemed confused when The8 didn’t want to give a trainee an “A.”
Yet, BamBam understood the comments as The8 explained that while he seemed like the whole package, the contestant couldn’t dance as the performance had been vocal-based.
When speaking to the contestant directly, The8 explained how important dancing is because as an idol in a group with many members, there might not be a lot of singing parts available but there is always dancing.
He pointed out that all five contestants were weak in dance.
The8 honestly added that if they just stand and sing, they would benefit more from being a solo artist rather than in a group.
When the video was posted, it instantly gained a lot of attention, and netizens praised The8’s outlook and commented on the trainees. Considering how many members SEVENTEEN has, The8 knows that not every person can have a lot of lines in songs, but that they can stand out in other ways, mainly the dancing and stage presence.
Seventeen Mindset is really another level.. instead of being resentful on getting less singing part, they would feel the responsibility to put 200% on dancing for the team. 10 years of teamwork and teamplay mindset. Minghao today is a top tier idol facing hurdles in his life ???? https://t.co/XUn2nRSZBZ

You are training to be an idol, not just a singer or a dancer. You have to hone yourself in all aspects.
I feel like Minghao’s comment aren’t even strict. What he said is the bare minimum. https://t.co/qnYOgGysYh

Coming from an all rounder group, i really get his strict side.. you must shine, if it not for singing, be good in dancing, but Hao came from a grp who can do everything so his judgement is fair enough. Everyone must excel in any aspect of being an idol. ????????

damn i never realized that some idols don’t get many singing parts so they have to stand out through dancing. it just made me see dancing as even more important

No but he makes a lot of sense. Singing distribution might change every comeback. You might not get a lot of lines but dancing is something that’s more or less equally distributed for everyone so being good in that aspect really gives a plus factor. https://t.co/fpW38Fwj8t

The8 also explained that while he couldn’t judge the trainees based on proper “idol” criteria, he thought dancing was one of the basics that was needed.
While some of the trainees thought the criteria and judging were harsh, netizens point out that The8 and BamBam have been through the most and know how cut-throat the idol industry is, making them qualified to make the comments.
