Recently, actor Darren Wang made international headlines after it was reported that he was being investigated for attempted murder.

According to media outlet SETN, the alleged attempted murder happened in April 2024. Reportedly, when he flew to Taiwan and called for airport transfer service through UBER, he thought the Tesla that came was of poor quality.
After forgetting his keys, punching the window, and escalating the situation with the driver, he reportedly got in touch with gang member(s) who beat the driver and the person who made the reservation up.

His involvement in the case was discovered through the investigation into alleged draft dodging, which was reported two weeks prior. In Taiwan, the age of conscription is 18, and men must serve in the military for one year before their 36th birthday.
Wang was accused of paying NT$ 1 million TWD (approximately $ 30,525 USD) and faking a heart condition via forged documentation to receive an exemption.
Darren Wang made his acting debut in 2008 but rose to fame with his appearance in the series Our Last Times, which helped earn him GQ’s Man Of The Year title in 2015. He earned several awards in 2015 and 2016, including the “Rising Star” award at the 5th APAN Awards in Korea.
In 2016, Wang’s claims of money mismanagement towards his company at the time ended in a lawsuit that was settled and his contract termination.

The star continued appearing in films and series, and he was named one of GAP’s Chinese ambassadors. His most recent film, 2023’s No More Bets, was a financial success and was the number one box office film in the world the weekend of its debut.
In 2024, the actor made headlines when he confirmed his relationship with Mu Xuan, a TV personality.

Wang was expected to begin his military enlistment on March 13, but it is unclear if the ongoing investigations will interfere with that.
