Before she was a soloist known for her well rounded skills, Minzy was the maknae of the iconic K-Pop girl group 2NE1.
From 2009 to 2016, she was the dancing machine, vocalist, and youngest of four members. She essentially grew up in 2NE1 since she entered the industry at the tender age of 15 years old.
She recently recounted her past as a member of the renowned YG Entertainment girl group in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam.
Firstly, she was open about the fact that it was not easy to be the maknae. Minzy was a full ten years younger than the eldest member, Park Bom, who was born in 1984.
The position of maknae or the youngest in a family is hard in its way.

At the same time, she did not want to make a negative narrative about her time in the group. She was firm that each position had its ups and downs.
It is the same for all—the leader, members, and the youngest. They all have their own challenges. I have a strong mind during hardships, and I always do my best in the part I am given. I don’t have any regrets.

Minzy much preferred to talk about the good that happened in 2NE1. When she was asked, “What was one of the most unforgettable moments with the 2NE1 group?” she had a sure answer. Unsurprisingly, it was related to food!
It was when we shared meals together!

Minzy, Park Bom, Dara, and CL spent most of their waking hours together preparing for commercials, music shows, recordings, and more. As such, having a simple meal together without distractions was something that Minzy treasured deeply.
We spent most of the time together—in cars, waiting rooms, or at home. Our timetable was so full that it was hard for us to sit around, have delicious dinners, or talk—like anybody else.

She concluded, “So for me, these unforgettable moments were when we could order food, sit around for talks, or eat out and take pictures together.”
2NE1 last met up in Coachella 2022 where they performed together for the first time since 2016.
As for Minzy herself, she is currently busy working as a TV show judge and full time artist. She is also set on releasing new music soon, asking her fans to wait for her patiently.
I’m now visiting Thailand, shooting for a TV show as a judge. I’m expecting to meet my fans on the stage in Asia, especially in South East Asia, whom I couldn’t meet due to Covid-19. I’m so excited and happy to meet them again after a long time!
I’m [also] preparing for a new performance, and coming up with a new single and mini album. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
