In a recent variety show appearance, Hyeri was directly confronted about her controversial Instagram story that kicked off a huge scandal involving the relationship between her former boyfriend, Ryu Jun Yeol, and his then-girlfriend, actress Han So Hee.
The controversy, which happened last year and led to Ryu and Han breaking up merely a few days after confirming their relationship, started with a single-word caption by Hyeri: “Interesting.” She uploaded an Instagram story with that caption right after Han So Hee and Ryu Jun Yeol’s dating rumors started circulating.
While the issue snowballed into a huge controversy, leading to Han So Hee even calling Hyeri out in a public post, she has stayed comparatively mum about the incident. But during her recent guest appearance on Coupang Play‘s series, Office Workers, she was almost cornered into addressing the story.
The show is somewhat SNL-like, with the cast members portraying different characters working at a company together as they discuss their survival stories while working with the older and younger generations. During the episode, the conversation shifted to the topic of drunken social media posting. Hyeri firmly responded that she had never drunkenly posted anything on her social media.
Comedian Kim Won Hoon chimed in at this, teasing Hyeri, “That thing you did while completely sober was really ‘interesting,’” referring to Hyeri’s post. The atmosphere got tense immediately, with everyone looking around awkwardly. Shin Dong Youp tried to lighten the situation by suggesting, “Maybe we should refrain from saying ‘interesting?’ Is that okay?”
Hyeri coldly responded, “It’ll be good to say ‘interesting’ only when something is interesting. Right now, it’s not.”
While the others tried to steer the conversation away from this topic, Kim Won Hoon, undeterred, asked again, “When something like that happens, the CEO or the head of your agency probably call, right? What do they say when they call you? Hyeri couldn’t control herself and burst out laughing at this.
Feigning ignorance, the actress responded, “It depends on each situation, but which one are you talking about?” Kim said, “Just anytime something ‘interesting’ happens.”
Hyeri responded bluntly, “How old are you? You seem so tactless.” She also later joked about Kim Won Hoon’s character on the show, the team leader.
Meanwhile, Office Workers is set to release new episodes every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm KST.
