When teaser photos for My Dearest Nemesis were revealed, some netizens became doubtful about a cast member whose role could potentially make or break the show. Now, the tides are turning.

My Dearest Nemesis is about the leader of a department store’s planning team (played by Moon Ga Young) who discovers that her new boss is her first love. The two met while playing an online game 16 years ago. The K-Drama is based on a Naver webtoon by Yang Hye Jin.
Choi Hyun Wook plays Ban Joo Yeon, the young head of the strategic planning division of Yongseong Department Store, whose parents tragically passed away when he was young…or rather, younger. During filming, Choi Hyun Wook was 22 years old, making him a decade younger than his character’s webtoon counterpart.
After seeing “aged-up” Choi in teaser photos, some fans weren’t sure if he’d be able to pull off the role and worried that the age gap between him and 28-year-old Moon Ga Young might affect their characters’ romantic chemistry.

Now that the first four episodes have aired, viewers are praising Choi’s acting and defending the casting choice. “I saw so many people saying that they just can’t buy [Choi, the male lead] as a CEO,” one Redditor wrote, “[but] isn’t that kinda the point?” The fact that Ban Joo Yeon is like a kid “playing dress up,” trying to emulate the idea of what he thinks a CEO should be, is an important part of his characterization.
