Former K-Pop CEO Sentenced For Aggravated Assault of Minor Boy Group Member

According to News1, Kim—the former CEO of a K-Pop management company who was charged with an aggravated assault of a minor idol—has been sentenced after the first trial.

Kim served as the company CEO until June 2024 when Kim was accused of beating Members A, B, and C with a metal pole from a clothing rack. Kim was accused of having raided the group’s dorm while intoxicated early in the morning. A police investigation was launched when one of the assaulted members reported Kim to the police.

It was reported that Kim was upset because Member A was in a romantic relationship with the group’s manager—and because the dorm was not clean.

The trial has since revealed more gruesome details about the severity of the assault that Idol A and fellow group members endured. News1 reported, “When Member A denied having violated company rules and contract terms, Kim struck Idol A’s thighs and buttocks while accusing him of lying.”

Kim assaulted Member A who was unable to defend himself using a metal pole that was prepared as a weapon, causing injuries that required four weeks of medical treatment. Kim also struck Member B and Member C on the head, making the assault particularly more dangerous given the weapon and the body part that was targeted. The severity of the assault was so extreme that the pole broke.

The Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division is reported to have sentenced Kim to one year in prison with a three-year probational suspension for aggravated assault, aggravated injury, and child abuse. Kim was also ordered to complete 120 hours of community service and pay a fine of ₩5.00 million KRW (about $ 3,460 USD) for violating child welfare laws.

Kim’s sentence was somewhat reduced given that Kim admitted to all charges, stepped down from the CEO position, and paid ₩80.0 million KRW (about $ 55,300 USD) in settlement. Because Kim had no prior criminal records or convictions of similar offenses, a probational period of suspension of his sentence was granted.

That said, DXMON‘s Jo was speculated to be Member A in question when the timeline of his departure lined up with the timeline of Kim’s assault and police investigation.
