Many K-Pop fans know that being an idol can be a lucrative profession, especially for those who branch into other facets of the entertainment industry.
From earning brand deals to acting in K-Dramas or movies, becoming set cast members on variety programs, or creating their own content, there are multiple opportunities for popular idols to make money outside of their musical releases.
What idols spend their well-earned money on differs. From buying luxury clothes and vehicles to investing in real estate, collecting art, or even collecting K-Pop idol merch.
Recently, one idol admitted that he has spent over ₩100 million KRW (about $ 76,100 USD), and not on any of the items mentioned above. Instead, he spent them on cleaning products.
First-generation K-Pop idol Fly to the Sky‘s Brian Joo reunited with his former labelmate, JYJ‘s Kim Jaejoong, as the two discussed their trainee days, current activities, and more.
Brian is known for his cleanliness and has his own original YouTube show, Cleaning Freak Brian, which gives viewers cleaning tips and has the veteran idol visiting fellow artists’ homes to assess their level of cleanliness.
Jaejoong asked him about the ₩100 million KRW (about $ 76,100 USD) he spent on cleaning products, and Brian explained that if he added the total amount spent on cleaning supplies, detergents, vacuums, and robot cleaners over the last 20 years, it would easily reach over that amount.
It seems the investment was worth it, as he continues to release episodes of his show, Cleaning Freak Brian.
