Korean police have released disturbing details from their interrogation of the 40-year-old elementary school teacher who confessed to killing an 8-year-old student in Daejeon. The suspect, who remains unnamed, revealed she chose her victim at random and committed the crime due to workplace grievances.

The shocking murder occurred when the teacher targeted a young student, Kim Ha Neul, who was leaving an aftercare program. According to Seobu Police Station Chief Yook Jong Myung, the teacher admitted to feeling resentment after facing difficulties upon her return to work. She specifically mentioned being prevented from resuming her teaching duties just three days after coming back from medical leave.
Investigation records show the teacher had been struggling with mental health issues since 2018. She had taken six months of medical leave for depression in December but unexpectedly cut it short, returning to work at year’s end. During questioning, she revealed that tensions arose quickly after her return when she felt excluded from classroom activities.
Teacher A said, ‘I was frustrated just three days after being reinstated. [Someone] prevented me from entering the classroom.

She described a calculated approach to the crime, purchasing a weapon before entering the school grounds. She waited for children to leave the aftercare program, then lured her victim to an audiovisual room by offering a book. The young student was then strangled and stabbed.
Perhaps most chilling was her admission that the victim’s identity was irrelevant to her plans. She had simply intended to take a child’s life before attempting to end her own.
It didn’t matter who.
